AWS: CPU Credit Balance

AWS CPU Credit BalanceI switched my web servers over to an AWS t2.micro instance in 2014, which has been adequate for my needs until late afternoon on December 16th when I started to get a flurry of "high CPU" alerts.  I noticed a large number of queued web requests that seemed slow to complete.  Web server responsiveness was extremely slow.

Hacks: Monitoring Refrigerator Temperatures

Fridge thermometerIn 2008 I bought a second refrigerator as a backup for my main refrigerator and to replace a chest freezer that consumed far too much electricity.  The second refrigerator is in the basement and does not get regular use - it failed last year causing some frozen food to spoil before the problem was detected.

Lost phone on bench

It is easy to lose your smartphone.  On a trip to Montreal, I left the hotel to visit the sights and only realised I did not have my phone after walking about twenty minutes.  No worries. I could use my wife's phone, start an incognito mode session, login to my account, and launch https://google.com/android/find.

Ecobee: Things Are Not Always What They Seem

Fan runtime I have been using an Ecobee3 Lite thermostat since 2019.  Aside from the issue described in Hydro One's myEnergyRewards in Action, it has met my needs.  I can create schedules that minimise furnace and A/C operation without impacting comfort levels.

Ability to Repair: SodaStream "Low Flow"

SodaStream injectorIn 2017, I was given a SodaStream (https://sodastream.ca/) device that injects CO2 from a rechargeable cylinder into water.  The injection rate dropped noticeably in the last few weeks, even with a full CO2 cylinder.
