In 2017, I was given a SodaStream (https://sodastream.ca/) device that injects CO2 from a rechargeable cylinder into water. The injection rate dropped noticeably in the last few weeks, even with a full CO2 cylinder. The only suggestion from SodaStream Support was to loosen and re-tighten the CO2 cylinder.
My well water is very hard. I have a water softener but drinking softened water is not considered healthy, so I ran an unsoftened water line to the kitchen. Lime in the water water had gradually plugged the CO2 injector at the end of the white tube in the picture. Soaking the injector with a solution of citric acid and warm water dissolved the clog. I happen to have citric acid on hand in the form of Dezcal to descale my espresso machine, but it is also available in smaller quantities from pharmacies.
I called SodaStream to update them on my solution, but I am not convinced they understood me.
